Balochistan shocked Pakistan by proclaiming itself an independent nation under the name Republic of Balochistan. Social media circulated a letter claiming the Balochistan army controls 85% of the region. The statement also claimed the country established its flag, national anthem, new currency, and administrative system. Additionally, the letter asserted full control over local minerals, gas, and coal resources. It mentioned that numerous officials resigned from Pakistan’s security agencies to support Balochistan.
Longstanding Protests and Tensions
Balochistan has experienced ongoing unrest with repeated protests against Pakistan. People have raised slogans against military leaders Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif. The declaration of independence has further increased Pakistan’s challenges. However, no official confirmation of Balochistan’s claims has come from any international authority or recognized government.
Escalating Violence in Recent Months
Recent months have seen intensified violence in Balochistan. Ethnic Baloch insurgents and TTP militants have attacked security forces. Since July 5, operations killed 109 militants, including 71 during Operation Shabaan. Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, and Balochistan Police conducted coordinated actions. Despite this, the situation remains unstable and continues to evolve.
