Amazon is preparing to enter the expanding quick commerce market. The company plans to take Amazon Now services to nearly 300 cities across India.
According to a Business Standard report, Amazon Now director Nishant Sardana shared the expansion plan with news agency PTI. He said the company aims to reach around 300 cities soon.
“We have a plan to expand to nearly 300 cities very soon,” Nishant Sardana said. Amazon started this service in January 2025.
Amazon Now Currently Operates In 30 Cities
At present, Amazon Now operates across around 30 Indian cities. However, the company has not announced any fixed expansion date.
Meanwhile, Nishant Sardana claimed that Amazon Now will increase its work speed four times. He said the service has performed strongly since its launch.
Additionally, the business unit records monthly growth between 20 and 25 percent. Amazon believes the quick commerce segment offers major opportunities.
Expansion Challenges Before Amazon Now
The quick commerce model depends heavily on dark store networks. Therefore, expanding from 30 cities to 300 cities requires thousands of new dark stores.
Amazon currently operates 650 micro-fulfilment centres. The company plans to increase this number beyond 1,000 soon.
However, Amazon will face strong competition from Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart. These companies already have established customer bases in the market.
Moreover, reaching 300 cities will require Amazon to move beyond metro areas. The company must enter Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
These smaller markets have different customer demands compared to metro cities. Therefore, Amazon needs to understand regional preferences carefully.
Amazon Invests ₹2,800 Crore In Business Unit
Amazon Now has invested ₹2,800 crore in this business unit. The company has spent most of this amount on infrastructure and delivery partners.
Furthermore, the expansion will test Amazon’s logistics strength across smaller cities. The company now aims to build a wider quick commerce network.
