Air India Express Flight Turns Back Mid-Air After Engine Oil Scare at 36,000 Feet

Kochi to Abu Dhabi Air India Express flight returned safely after pilots detected a sharp oil drop in engine number-1 during the journey.

Air India Express Boeing 737 flight IX 415 returned to Kochi during its journey to Abu Dhabi. The aircraft faced a technical issue after takeoff. According to sources, the crew noticed a rapid drop in oil quantity in engine number-1. The pilots assessed the situation after detecting the problem during flight.

The engine oil pressure later reached a dangerous level. Therefore, the crew decided to shut down engine number-1. After taking necessary precautions, the aircraft landed safely at Kochi International Airport.

Technical problem appeared at 36,000 feet altitude

According to sources, the aircraft faced the issue around 50 minutes after departing from Kochi. At that time, the plane was flying at nearly 36,000 feet altitude.

Meanwhile, the pilot and co-pilot observed that engine number-1 oil levels were reducing quickly. As the oil quantity continued declining, the flight crew started a detailed assessment of the situation.

The crew evaluated the technical issue before deciding the next steps. Finally, the aircraft returned safely to Kochi after the engine concern emerged during the flight.
