US President Donald Trump has once again attracted global attention with controversial statements against Italy and its leaders. He claimed that at the recent G7 Summit, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and other leaders hesitated to engage on serious Iran nuclear threats despite NATO’s massive spending.
Trump stated on Truth Social, “After spending trillions on NATO, Italy and its Prime Minister refuse to participate in discussions on Iran and its nuclear dangers. For decades we protected them, yet they do not stand with us when global security is at stake. This is unacceptable.”
Photo Controversy
Trump further alleged that Meloni pleaded to take a photo with him during the G7 summit. The statement triggered immediate reactions from Meloni and Italy.
She firmly denied the claim, posting on social media platform X, “Neither I nor Italy ever plead for photographs with anyone. The President’s statement is completely fictional.”
Meloni’s Strong Rebuttal
Meloni criticized Trump’s comments as fabricated and inappropriate. She expressed confusion over why a US President would mock or disrespect democratically elected leaders of allied nations.
She emphasized that America should maintain equal strictness toward adversaries of Western nations, stating that no political view justifies public humiliation or disrespect toward close European partners.
