On June 10, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office. This milestone surpasses India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, whose tenure lasted 4,398 days. Raghav Chaddha emphasized that this achievement is unprecedented in India’s electoral and democratic history.
India’s Vast and Diverse Democracy
Chaddha highlighted that India represents 140 crore people across 22 scheduled languages, hundreds of dialects, religions, castes, and communities. He noted India’s 98 crore registered voters exceed the entire population of Europe, making elections exceptionally complex.
Chaddha stressed that winning trust in such a vast, diverse democracy once is remarkable, repeating it thrice extraordinary.
Consecutive Mandates Reflect Extraordinary Trust
Modi received three consecutive mandates from the Indian electorate: 2014, 2019, and 2024. Chaddha described these repeated victories as new examples of public confidence and trust in leadership.
The mandates reflect voters’ approval of Modi’s governance, policies, and consistent engagement across the country.
Comparing Modi and Nehru
Chaddha compared Nehru’s era with Modi’s, emphasizing differences in political environments and democratic challenges. Nehru led during early republic years with dominant Congress and a fragmented, weak opposition, while Modi faced strong regional powers.
Despite coalition politics, multiparty competition, and regional challenges, Modi achieved full majority in 2014 and 2019, the first since 1984.
Raghav Chaddha Salutes Modi
Chaddha praised Modi’s dedication, emphasizing that public service, humility, and consistent governance are the ultimate tests of leadership. He also shared a Sanskrit shloka highlighting devotion to duty, public welfare, and virtuous governance as the foundation of public trust:
“सदानुरक्तप्रकृतिः प्रजापालनतत्परः। विनीतात्मा हि नृपतिर्भूयसी श्रियमश्नुते॥”
This recognition underscores Modi’s exceptional accomplishment in India’s vibrant, diverse, and highly participatory democracy.
