Siddaramaiah Resigns as Karnataka CM: Emotional Farewell After Political Showdown

Karnataka’s power struggle ends as Siddaramaiah submits resignation, pledging support to the new government and reflecting on his political journey

Karnataka’s political tug-of-war ended Thursday as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resigned. He submitted his resignation at the Governor’s office in Bengaluru. However, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was absent and will return tonight. Therefore, Siddaramaiah handed his resignation to the Governor’s secretary. Moreover, he expressed confidence the Governor will accept it according to constitutional norms.

Siddaramaiah stated he always declared readiness to resign when instructed by the high command. Consequently, following party directions, he stepped down immediately. Furthermore, he rejected offers to join national politics through a Rajya Sabha seat, emphasizing commitment to Karnataka. He stressed that he will continue to fight those working against the Constitution and remain focused on state politics.

Reflections on Political Journey and Service

Siddaramaiah highlighted that he never imagined becoming a legislator or CM. He entered politics by chance, coming from a non-political family. Moreover, he has always believed in Gandhian, Ambedkarite, and constitutional values. During his two CM tenures from 2013–2018 and 2023–present, he expressed gratitude to colleagues and supporters. He confirmed fulfilling almost all election promises: 158 of 165 promises from 2013 and about 300 of 550 promises from 2023. He also implemented all five guarantee schemes made during the elections.

Siddaramaiah criticized opposition parties for spreading misinformation about development and guarantee schemes. He stated that despite false claims, Karnataka now ranks first in per capita income after implementing guarantee programs. Additionally, he promised full support to the new government, ensuring constitutional transition proceeds smoothly.

Siddaramaiah concluded with appreciation for workers, legislators, and the public, acknowledging the trust and opportunities received throughout his political career.
