A passenger travelling from Patna to Tatanagar shared a video online. Furthermore, the clip showed worms in curd served with dinner. Additionally, the passenger claimed similar issues affected other travellers.

As a result, the video gained attention on social media quickly. Therefore, the Railways responded without delay.

Railways Takes Immediate Action

After receiving the complaint, the Railways initiated swift action. Moreover, officials cancelled the catering company’s contract immediately. Additionally, authorities imposed a ₹50 lakh penalty on the caterer.

Furthermore, IRCTC also faced accountability for the incident. Consequently, officials imposed a ₹10 lakh fine on the organisation.

Official Statement Confirms Penalty

The Rail Ministry issued a statement regarding the incident. Moreover, it referred to the complaint dated March 15, 2026. Additionally, the issue occurred on train number 21896, Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express.

Officials stated that they treated the complaint seriously. Furthermore, they confirmed both penalties and contract termination. They also emphasised that passenger safety and food quality remain top priorities.
