Three women from Arunachal Pradesh filed a formal police complaint against their south Delhi neighbours alleging racial abuse. Specifically, Malviya Nagar police registered an FIR on Sunday against Harish Singh and his wife following the complaint. Moreover, authorities invoked Sections 79, 351(2), 3(5), and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against both accused.
Furthermore, senior police officers confirmed that no physical injuries were reported in the incident by any parties. Additionally, the complainants alleged they suffered severe mental harassment and public humiliation during the confrontation with neighbours. Indeed, the incident highlights ongoing discrimination faced by people from northeastern states residing in Delhi and surroundings.
Consequently, multiple videos documenting the alleged abuse have circulated widely on social media platforms drawing public outrage. Meanwhile, the women have demanded a formal apology noting the remarks targeted the entire northeastern community broadly. Therefore, police are conducting a thorough investigation examining all evidence including viral video footage from the incident.

Construction Work Sparks Racial Confrontation
According to police records, the incident occurred around 3:30 pm on February 20 during routine apartment work. Specifically, the three women had arranged drilling and electrical work in their fourth-floor Malviya Nagar apartment. Moreover, dust and debris from the ongoing construction fell to the floor below during the process. Furthermore, this falling debris prompted immediate objections from residents Harish Singh and his wife living directly below.
Additionally, a senior police officer explained that what began as a simple neighbourhood issue escalated dramatically. Indeed, the women alleged that instead of discussing the matter civilly, the couple became verbally aggressive immediately. Consequently, the dispute quickly transformed from a minor inconvenience into a serious case of alleged racial discrimination.
Meanwhile, the complainants claim offensive stereotypes were deployed and their modesty was insulted during heated exchanges. Therefore, what could have been resolved amicably instead required police intervention and formal legal action ultimately.
Viral Videos Capture Derogatory Remarks
Several videos of the confrontation circulated rapidly on social media drawing widespread condemnation and attention from netizens. Specifically, one widely shared clip shows a woman allegedly asking one Arunachal resident extremely offensive questions. Moreover, the accused woman reportedly asks, “Were you sitting here to do business? Have you opened massage parlour?” Furthermore, this question clearly invokes harmful stereotypes frequently directed at northeastern women living in metropolitan Indian cities.
Additionally, the victim can be heard responding that everyone heard false allegations made about her character publicly. Indeed, she challenges accusers to inspect her room if they believe she keeps alcohol bottles there illegally. Consequently, the video evidence provides clear documentation of the alleged racial profiling and harassment that occurred. Meanwhile, when male neighbour Harish Singh was confronted about his wife’s behaviour, derogatory remarks reportedly continued unabated. Therefore, the video footage has become crucial evidence in the police investigation and legal proceedings against accused.
Eviction Threat and Demands for Justice
Following the confrontation, the complainants alleged they received threats forcing them to vacate their rented apartment soon. Specifically, a building broker reportedly informed them they must leave within two months for future repair work.
Moreover, the women suspect this eviction notice is directly connected to the dispute with their neighbours below. Furthermore, they believe this represents an intimidation tactic to avoid facing legal consequences for alleged racial abuse. Additionally, the three women have formally demanded a written apology from Harish Singh and his wife immediately. Indeed, they emphasized that offensive remarks targeted not just them individually but the entire northeastern community collectively.
Consequently, activists and social media users have rallied behind the women demanding strict action against the accused. Meanwhile, this incident has reignited conversations about systemic racism faced by northeastern Indians in major metropolitan areas. Therefore, the case represents a broader struggle for dignity and equal treatment of all Indian citizens nationwide.
