A tragic Dwarka SUV crash has left Delhi shaken and grieving. A 23-year-old biker, Sahil Dhaneshra, lost his life earlier this month. A 17-year-old allegedly drove his father’s Scorpio SUV without a licence. Now, the teen’s father has publicly apologised and expressed deep remorse. However, grief continues to dominate both families in different ways.
Father Expresses Shame and Regret
The accused teen’s father spoke to media interview and accepted responsibility. He described the incident as a grave mistake and apologised repeatedly. “I feel very ashamed,” he said while addressing the tragedy. He explained that he was in Gorakhpur for work that day. Meanwhile, he said his son likely took the car keys in naivety. He added that he usually maintains strict discipline at home. Furthermore, he believes his presence in Delhi might have prevented the incident. Despite the accident, he insisted his son did not run away. Instead, he claimed the teenager stayed and tried to help.
What Happened on February 3?
The accident occurred near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka. According to Delhi Police, the Scorpio collided with a bike. Subsequently, the SUV crashed into a parked taxi. Sahil Dhaneshra died at the scene. Meanwhile, taxi driver Ajit Singh suffered injuries and went to hospital. Police said the minor lacked a valid driving licence. Authorities later presented him before the Juvenile Justice Board. Officials sent him to an Observation Home. However, the board later granted interim relief for board examinations.
Allegations of Reckless Driving
Sahil’s mother, Inna Makan, raised serious allegations about reckless driving. She claimed the teen drove at high speed while shooting reels. Moreover, she alleged he drove in the wrong lane. She also said he performed a stunt near a bus. Visuals circulating online reportedly show the speeding vehicle. Therefore, the family questions how such behaviour went unchecked. Interestingly, the teen’s brother admitted that he drove fast. He criticised his sibling for driving without a licence. However, he echoed his father and said the teen stayed after the crash.
SUV Challans and Business Use
Reports revealed that the SUV carried several past challans. In response, the father clarified that drivers usually operate the vehicle. He explained that the family runs a commercial business. Therefore, hired drivers mostly handle the car. Still, critics argue that responsibility begins at home.
A Mother’s Pain, A Father’s Plea
Sahil’s mother now faces life without her only son. She raised him alone and described him as her entire world. Her grief, meanwhile, has turned into a call for justice. The teen’s father addressed her directly with folded emotions. He acknowledged that nothing can undo her loss. Nevertheless, he promised to seek her forgiveness lifelong. “I understand her pain,” he said during the interview.
