INDIA Alliance’s Big Move: Kharge Announces ‘Save Democracy March’ Plan

The INDIA alliance discussed its strategy on the Election Commission and SIR issues, announcing protests, a march, and a planned meeting with the President.

The INDIA alliance held a meeting in Delhi on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The opposition parties discussed their future strategy regarding the Election Commission and SIR issues. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the meeting continued for nearly three and a half hours. He added that all parties agreed to fight together on these issues. Some leaders joined online, while Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren also shared their views. Kharge said Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee and other leaders gave several suggestions during the discussion. Therefore, the alliance decided to launch joint programmes related to election processes and voter lists.

‘Save Democracy March’ From October 2 To 8

Kharge announced that the INDIA alliance will organise the ‘Save Democracy’ march from October 2 to October 8. The march will take place across the country with district-level protests and demonstrations. Moreover, opposition leaders, workers and organisations working on democratic issues will participate. Kharge said the campaign aims to raise concerns about election processes, voter lists and democratic rights among citizens.

Opposition MPs To March Towards Election Commission

The Congress president said opposition MPs will march towards the Election Commission office on October 6. Initially, the alliance planned another date, but leaders selected October 6 after considering MPs’ availability. Meanwhile, the demand to remove CEC Gyanesh Kumar remains a major issue in the INDIA alliance campaign. The meeting also focused on election transparency, SIR, voter lists and electoral procedures.

Opposition Plans Meeting With President

Kharge said opposition leaders will seek time from the President during the second week of October. They plan to present their concerns regarding election procedures and voter lists. According to Kharge, the opposition wants these issues raised at the constitutional level.

Kharge Targets PM Modi And Amit Shah

After the meeting, Kharge made allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the Election Commission. He claimed that the Election Commission is being used like a puppet, with Modi and Shah behind it. Earlier, Kharge had demanded CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and called him a government puppet.
