The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) coordinator Abhijeet Dipke announced a major protest plan amid questions over the Election Commission and SIR process. He said CJP will begin a nationwide protest from Mumbai on October 2 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign.
Through a post on X, Deepke said the movement will expand to cities across India. He also appealed to citizens to take a pledge to protect democracy on Gandhi Jayanti.
Deepke Gives 48-Hour Ultimatum Before Protest Announcement
Earlier, Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka held a press conference on September 24. They issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding action against Gyanesh Kumar.
During the conference, Deepke presented three demands. First, he demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and criminal action against him. Second, he demanded a halt on SIR and restoration of the January 2025 voter list.
Additionally, he demanded cancellation of the 2023 law and reforms within the Election Commission. The announcement gained attention because CJP had earlier protested against the NEET paper leak.
After that protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Deepke claimed Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned. He also said the government had started discussions after the demonstration.
Election Commission Report Sparks Fresh Dispute
Meanwhile, a new controversy started after an Indian Express report on September 23. The report claimed two of three election commissioners raised objections during the SIR process.
Therefore, reports of disagreement inside the Election Commission created political reactions. Opposition parties had already questioned SIR, but the report gave them another issue.
Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, TMC, and other opposition groups demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s removal. They also requested the Supreme Court to take suo motu action.
Furthermore, Congress began a nationwide march towards Election Commission offices against Gyanesh Kumar. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi targeted Gyanesh Kumar and BJP during a press conference.
Opposition parties are also preparing to bring an impeachment motion against Gyanesh Kumar.
