Vehicle owners who require large diesel quantities may face difficulties at some petrol pumps. Private companies have introduced limits on diesel sales at selected outlets.
The decision comes amid fuel supply concerns linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis. Additionally, rising crude oil prices in international markets have affected fuel availability.
Therefore, private fuel retailers decided to reduce diesel sales at their outlets. The new limits apply to specific private petrol pumps.
Jio-BP And Nayara Energy Set Diesel Caps
Jio-BP has fixed a 50-litre diesel limit per customer at several outlets. Furthermore, the company has capped daily diesel sales at 6,000 litres.
Earlier, these outlets sold around 11,000 litres of diesel daily on average. However, Jio-BP has reduced the diesel quota for each outlet by nearly half.
Similarly, Nayara Energy has also introduced limits at its petrol pumps. The company has kept the restriction between 70 and 200 litres.
Government Oil Companies Continue Normal Sales
Meanwhile, government oil marketing companies have not introduced such restrictions. Indian Oil, HPCL and BPCL confirmed no diesel limits at their petrol pumps.
Around 90% of India’s more than one lakh fuel stations operate under these three public sector companies. Therefore, regular consumers may see limited impact.
However, long-distance commercial vehicles may face some challenges. Trucks operating in remote areas could experience difficulties due to private pump restrictions.
Many highways and rural regions have stronger networks of private operators like Jio-BP and Nayara Energy. As a result, drivers may have fewer alternatives in such locations.
Fuel Availability Remains A Key Concern
The diesel restrictions mainly affect customers seeking large quantities from private outlets. Smaller consumers may continue using other available fuel stations.
Furthermore, if private pump rationing continues, commercial users in affected areas may need alternate arrangements. The impact will depend on fuel availability at nearby outlets.
