The Election Commission’s SIR process has faced questions after an Indian Express report revealed details. Meanwhile, election commission sources said all decisions received approval through consensus. They added that both Election Commissioners and the Chief Election Commissioner approved the process.
Election Commissioners Raised Objections During SIR Process
According to the report, two Election Commissioners raised concerns during the SIR process. They recorded objections 14 times over a period of 10 months.
Furthermore, the Election Commission takes major decisions through a panel. This panel includes the Chief Election Commissioner and two other Election Commissioners.
The report stated that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi expressed objections. However, it claimed that these concerns were ignored during the process.
Report Raised Questions Over Decision Process
The report also stated that objections did not reach the commission through the majority decision process. Instead, decisions moved forward despite concerns raised by two panel members.
Meanwhile, election commission sources maintained that SIR decisions followed approval procedures. They said the process received consent from all three members.
Therefore, the dispute now focuses on the internal decision-making process during the SIR exercise.
