Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman did not attend the BRICS Summit. Before the event, Bangladesh claimed India did not send an invitation. However, the Ministry of External Affairs clarified the matter on Tuesday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India invited Tariq Rahman twice.
One invitation covered a bilateral visit. Another invitation invited him to attend the BRICS Summit.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal said the 18th BRICS Summit witnessed a bilateral meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping during the event.
During the discussion, Modi highlighted India’s concerns. He also stressed sensitivity towards each other’s key concerns.
Furthermore, Modi emphasized three principles. These included mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity.
Global Issues Discussed During BRICS Meetings
During the BRICS Summit, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussed Houthi attacks with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister.
Additionally, India raised the Zakir Naik issue with Malaysia. Jaiswal said discussions on this matter continue at every level.
India-Russia Energy Cooperation Remains Important
While discussing the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, Jaiswal highlighted India-Russia energy cooperation. He said the energy sector remains a major pillar between both nations. The partnership in this field continues to strengthen.
Search Operation Continues After Oman Ship Attack
Jaiswal also shared details about an attack near Oman’s coast. A Panama-flagged commercial ship faced the incident.
The vessel carried 14 Indian citizens and sailors. Authorities rescued 13 Indians safely.
India thanked Oman authorities for their assistance. However, one Indian sailor remains missing. Moreover, Jaiswal said search and rescue operations continue with Oman’s support. The Indian embassy remains in contact with officials.
He added that targeting commercial ships, sailors, civilians and infrastructure remains unacceptable. India urged quick restoration of safe navigation and trade activities.
India Questions Pakistan Over Masood Azhar
Regarding Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, Jaiswal criticised Pakistan’s approach. He said Pakistan has previously tried misleading the world through such claims. He added that Pakistan must arrest Masood Azhar. According to MEA, India’s position against terrorism remains clear. Pakistan must fulfil its responsibilities regarding action against terrorism.
