Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal surrendered before Goa’s Mapusa court on Monday in the 2013 rape case. He followed the Supreme Court’s direction before further hearing his appeal against the Bombay High Court verdict.
Supreme Court Ordered Surrender Before Appeal Hearing
Earlier, the Supreme Court rejected Tejpal’s request for exemption from surrender. The court directed him to complete the process within three weeks.
Accordingly, Tejpal appeared before the Mapusa court after the Supreme Court order. The direction came before the hearing of his appeal against the Bombay High Court’s conviction order.
Court Had Denied Surrender Exemption Request
The Supreme Court dismissed Tejpal’s plea seeking relief from surrender last month. Therefore, the court asked him to surrender within the given three-week period.
The matter relates to a 2013 rape case involving the former Tehelka editor-in-chief. Following the order, Tejpal completed the surrender process before the Goa court.
