The Delhi Municipal Corporation took major action after the Satya Niketan building collapse. MCD suspended five South Zone officials following the incident.

The action came within 24 hours of the tragedy. MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar ordered the suspension of these officials.

Five South Zone Officials Face Suspension

The suspended officers include Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar and SE Ranveer Singh. Executive Engineer (Building) Lalit Kumar Goyal also faces suspension. Additionally, Assistant Engineer (Building) Sunil Chauhan and Junior Engineer Ashish Kumar received suspension orders. MCD Vigilance Department issued separate suspension orders.

The order stated that suspensions will continue until disciplinary action remains pending against all officials.

Officials Had Building Monitoring Responsibilities

The building department handles construction monitoring and action against rule violations. If construction happens without approval or against sanctioned plans, officials face questions over supervision.

Meanwhile, AE and JE officers usually handle initial site-level monitoring. Furthermore, EE and SE officers manage area supervision and necessary action.

The Deputy Commissioner works as the administrative authority for the zone.

MCD Commissioner Spoke After The Collapse

Earlier, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar addressed the Satya Niketan collapse. He said seven people lost their lives in the unfortunate incident. Khirwar explained that the neighbouring building had become weak after the collapse. Therefore, teams worked overnight to strengthen the structure.

He added that authorities planned to demolish the weakened building in a controlled manner within one or two days.

Owner Records And Building History Revealed

Khirwar said officials found owner-related documents through property tax records. The owner paid property tax last year and submitted conversion charges in 2007. Police continued efforts to locate the owner. The building dates back to the 1970s. According to Khirwar, authorities never issued notices for the structure. They also never sealed the building.

Furthermore, officials had not received any complaint regarding the building before the collapse.
