Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay announced a major decision in the state assembly. He confirmed withdrawal of cases against peaceful protesters.
The decision will benefit farmers and teachers who protested for their livelihood, rights and genuine demands. These cases were registered between May 2021 and April 2026.
Meanwhile, Vijay said the government took this step on humanitarian grounds. He also highlighted the importance of respecting democratic values.
The Chief Minister added that his government will always stand with farmers and teachers.
Farmers Faced Cases During Land Protests
Earlier, authorities registered cases against farmers opposing the SIPCOT industrial park in Tiruvannamalai district. Some farmers also faced action under strict sections.
Additionally, farmers in Parandur protested against a new airport project. They feared losing agricultural land, water resources and employment opportunities.
The previous government registered cases against these protesting farmers. These cases remained pending until now.
Decision Brings Relief To Peaceful Protesters
Therefore, the withdrawal announcement provides relief to farmers and teachers involved in peaceful demonstrations.
Moreover, Vijay’s government stated that the decision reflects support for citizens raising legitimate concerns.
