Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a firm position against terrorism at the 26th SCO summit. He said countries cannot fight terror through reactions after attacks alone. Instead, nations must target the wider system that keeps terrorism alive. That system includes financing, recruitment, radicalisation and safe havens for terrorists.
No Double Standards In The Fight
Speaking before Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Modi avoided naming Pakistan directly. However, he addressed nations that use terrorism as a policy tool. He said such countries must receive a clear message from the international community. Terrorism cannot become any nation’s strategic asset. Likewise, countries must reject support or shelter for terrorists.
SCO Members Must Act Together
Modi urged SCO members to respond collectively against the threat. He described terrorism as a serious challenge for humanity. Therefore, he argued that the fight cannot remain limited to an action-and-reaction approach. Countries need to dismantle the entire ecosystem that enables terrorist activity.
Terror Funding Emerges As A Key Target
The Prime Minister specifically stressed the need to eliminate terror financing. He also highlighted recruitment and radicalisation as major parts of the wider network. Furthermore, safe locations for terrorists must also disappear. According to Modi, these connected elements require a united response from every member country.
A Message Against Terror As Strategy
Modi called for one clear position from all nations on terrorism. He said the world cannot accept different standards while dealing with such threats. Nations that promote terrorism or make it part of their strategy must face a strong message. Thus, his SCO remarks focused on dismantling the complete system rather than reacting to individual attacks.
