Shubman Gill reached the top position in ICC ODI batting rankings on Wednesday. The International Cricket Council released the latest rankings on July 29. Gill moved one place higher and secured the number one position. Earlier, he held the second spot in the rankings.
Moreover, the Indian ODI captain surpassed New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell. Gill now holds a rating of 801 points.
Meanwhile, Mitchell remains second with 794 rating points. India’s top batters continue dominating the rankings list.
Rohit And Virat Remain Inside Top Five Rankings
Virat Kohli occupies the third position with a rating of 767 points. Rohit Sharma follows him at fourth place with 758 rating points. Additionally, Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran stands fifth. He holds a rating of 712 points.
Gill’s recent performances played a major role in his ranking rise. His batting success came against Afghanistan and England.
Gill Shines Against Afghanistan And England Series
During the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, Gill delivered outstanding performances. He scored 238 runs across two innings.
The Indian batter maintained an average of 238 during that series. He scored 84 unbeaten runs in the first match. Furthermore, Gill produced a 154-run knock in the second game. He finished as the highest run-scorer of that series. Later, Gill continued his form against England in another three-match ODI series. He scored 188 runs across three innings.
His average remained 94 during the England series. Gill scored 80 unbeaten runs, 31 runs and 77 runs.
