Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly remains in a coma after a devastating airstrike. According to a report by The Sun, the attack critically wounded the leader and killed his father.
The British tabloid stated that the fifty six year old son of assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei suffered severe injuries. Currently, doctors are treating him in Tehran.
Sources Claim Loss Of Leg And Internal Injuries
Sources cited by The Sun described serious physical damage to the leader. They claimed Mojtaba Khamenei lost at least one leg during the incident. Additionally, he reportedly suffered serious stomach or liver injuries.
However, the report stated uncertainty regarding the exact circumstances of the injuries. It remained unclear whether Mojtaba Khamenei sustained wounds during the same February twenty eight strike that killed his eighty six year old father.
Meanwhile, the report added that he currently does not direct Iran’s war strategy. Observers blame this conflict for disruption in global energy markets.
Treatment Under Tight Security In Tehran
According to The Sun, doctors are treating Mojtaba Khamenei at Sina University Hospital in Tehran. Furthermore, hospital authorities placed the facility under strict security.
A source from Tehran described the leader’s medical condition as extremely serious. The source claimed severe injuries affected multiple body areas. The source stated that doctors removed one or two legs due to the damage. Additionally, the source reported rupture in either the liver or stomach.
Furthermore, the source said Mojtaba Khamenei remains in a coma.
Intensive Medical Care Led By Senior Surgeon
Meanwhile, doctors continue intensive treatment for the leader. Veteran trauma surgeon Mohammad Reza Zafarghandi oversees the medical care.
Notably, Zafarghandi also serves as Iran’s health minister. Additionally, he possesses extensive experience treating severe war injuries.
State Television Broadcasts Statement
Meanwhile, Iranian state television attempted to show continuity in leadership. Broadcasters aired what they described as Mojtaba Khamenei’s first statement since assuming power.
However, a news anchor read the statement instead of the leader himself. The message warned that Iran would avenge the blood of its citizens.
Furthermore, the statement declared that attacks on regional shipping routes would continue. Additionally, it threatened potential attempts to block the Strait of Hormuz.
War Strategy May Continue Without Leader
Meanwhile, the report suggested Iran’s leadership structure could maintain military operations without direct commands from Khamenei. An Iranian analyst quoted by The Sun explained this possibility. The analyst stated that the country’s system continues functioning despite leadership absence.
He said the institutional structure created by the previous leader remains operational. Therefore, military activities such as missile and drone strikes continue.
The analyst added that this system could function even without an active leader.
Claims Remain Unverified
However, The Sun reported that independent verification of these claims remains difficult. Internet restrictions inside Iran limit access to reliable information. Additionally, authorities maintain tight security around the leader’s treatment. Therefore, confirmation regarding the reported injuries remains uncertain.
