Global Media Tracks India’s Election Results
India’s assembly election results in four states and one Union Territory drew strong global attention. Moreover, major newspapers and media organisations covered these results prominently. They focused especially on BJP’s West Bengal victory and actor Joseph Vijay’s party success in Tamil Nadu. Therefore, the election outcome quickly became a major international political story.
BJP’s Bengal Win Dominates Foreign Coverage
From London to New York, and from Islamabad to Dhaka, global media gave the results major space. Most reports highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP’s victory in West Bengal. Additionally, they described it as the end of Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year stronghold. As a result, Bengal became the main focus across several foreign reports.
Vijay’s Tamil Nadu Entry Creates Buzz
Foreign media also gave attention to Tamil superstar Joseph Vijay. He formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, or TVK, two years ago. However, his party has now removed ruling DMK from power. Consequently, Vijay’s political rise became another major talking point beyond Bengal.
BBC Calls Bengal A Tough Frontier
BBC focused strongly on BJP’s Bengal victory. Its report carried the title, “Modi’s BJP conquers Bengal, one of India’s toughest political frontiers.” Further, the report called this win one of Modi’s biggest achievements in 12 years. It added that BJP did not merely defeat a three-time government. Instead, it marked a major expansion for BJP in eastern India.
The Guardian Sees A Political Shift
Britain’s leading newspaper The Guardian also focused on Bengal results. It published a report titled, “Narendra Modi’s BJP wins election in West Bengal for the first time.” Moreover, the report said this victory would bring a major shift in Indian politics. It also called the result a serious blow for the opposition.
New York Times Calls It Historic
America’s New York Times described BJP’s win as historic. Its report carried the title, “Modi’s Hindu Nationalists Conquer a Bastion of India’s Opposition.” Further, the report said BJP created history by gaining power in such a large state. It also mentioned Vijay’s Tamil Nadu success and called it the election’s biggest surprise.
Washington Post Links Win To Modi’s Strength
Washington Post said Bengal’s victory would strengthen Prime Minister Modi’s position further. Also, it noted that this win came after the 2024 Lok Sabha election. After that election, Modi formed government with allies’ support. However, this Bengal result would boost his political standing. Additionally, the report called Kerala important, where Congress-led opposition defeated the Left government.
Pakistan And Bangladesh Also Follow Results
Pakistan’s newspaper Dawn published an AFP report on the election results. It said Modi’s party won West Bengal, an opposition stronghold. Moreover, the report said this victory would strengthen Modi before the 2029 general election. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Dhaka Tribune also published the same report. It highlighted DMK’s defeat in Tamil Nadu and Vijay’s party victory as a big shock. The report added that Chief Minister MK Stalin lost his seat, while his party finished second.
