Tonight Brings Storm Threat: IMD Warns North India, Big Impact Ahead

Delhi, UP, Bihar on Alert as Strong Western Disturbance Builds

Storms, heavy winds, rain, and hail may hit several regions across India. Moreover, weather activity will intensify in coming days. However, impact will vary across areas. Therefore, some regions may face severe storms, while nearby zones may remain mostly unaffected.

Weather System Developing

According to IMD, a western disturbance is forming strongly. It carries moisture from the Mediterranean region. Consequently, this system will trigger rain, thunder, and hail across North India. Additionally, Gurugram, South Delhi, Faridabad, and Noida face highest risk tonight, Monday, April 6.

Western Disturbance Impact

Earlier, on April 4, Gurugram saw intense storms quickly. Heavy rain and hail followed within a short time. Similarly, tonight may bring comparable conditions again. However, IMD expects 50 to 60 percent NCR areas may not receive rainfall.

Stronger System Ahead

Meanwhile, IMD reported a more powerful western disturbance moving forward. Therefore, between April 7 and April 9, severe hailstorms may hit large regions. Consequently, a vast geographical stretch may face extreme weather conditions.

States Likely Affected

According to IMD, multiple states will face impact. These include Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, northern Madhya Pradesh, and Northeast India. Therefore, nearly 30 to 40 percent of India’s area may get affected.

Farmers Receive Advisory

Meanwhile, authorities advised farmers to act quickly. Farmers with ready wheat crops must complete harvesting by April 6. Earlier, heavy losses already occurred during recent storms. Specifically, hail on April 3 and 4 damaged wheat fields across Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, a larger disaster may now follow.
