Meet Tyson: Wounded but Fearless, The Army Dog Who Helped Neutralise Terrorists in J-K

Indian Army sniffer Tyson charged terrorists in Kishtwar, suffered gunfire injury, yet helped forces eliminate three militants.

Dense terrain in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir produced an unlikely hero during an anti-terror mission. Tyson, a sniffer canine from the Indian Army’s 2 Para Special Forces, displayed remarkable courage. Troops launched an operation to capture hidden militants inside the forest zone. Meanwhile, Tyson relied on sharp senses to trace their location.

Injured But Refused to Step Back

As the canine approached the hideout, sudden gunfire erupted from inside. Attackers aimed directly and struck him in the front right leg. However, he refused to retreat despite injury. Instead, he advanced further and confirmed militant presence for soldiers. His movement allowed forces to identify the exact position of targets.

Consequently, security personnel gained tactical advantage during the exchange. With assistance from the German Shepherd, troops engaged attackers and eliminated three Pakistani terrorists. Officials confirmed that the slain group included a senior Jaish-e-Mohammad commander who had evaded capture for long duration. One officer stated, “Brave K9 trooper Tyson, a German Shepherd, of the Army’s 2 Para Special Forces, was injured during a counter-terror operation. He was hit in the front right leg.” The same representative added, “Despite being shot, Tyson continued advancing, demonstrating exceptional courage and loyalty in the line of duty.”

Evacuated for Treatment, Now Stable

Medical teams evacuated him immediately for urgent attention. Doctors admitted him to Command Hospital in Udhampur. Authorities confirmed that he remains stable and responds well to care.

More Than an Animal, A True Warrior

Furthermore, Tyson’s story highlights that bravery transcends species. Military canines undergo rigorous training to detect explosives, trace threats, and support troops during dangerous missions. Their loyalty and fearlessness often determine success in life-threatening situations.

Although he wears no medal, actions reflect the spirit of a true soldier. He faced bullets without hesitation and helped protect fellow personnel during combat.
