Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Against ‘Yadav Ji Ki Love Story’, Says Title Does Not Insult Any Community

Bench rules objections based on apprehension cannot render film title unconstitutional before release

The Supreme Court dismissed a petition filed against the film ‘Yadav Ji Ki Love Story’ and held that the title does not portray any caste negatively or insult any community.

The petitioner argued that the movie depicts a caste improperly, however the court observed that the primary objection concerns the title alone and nowhere does it show any group in a wrong manner. Moreover the bench clarified that mere apprehension cannot justify declaring a title unconstitutional before release.

Bench Differentiates From ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’ Case

The court referred to the film ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’ and stated that the present matter differs from that situation because in that instance it appeared that a caste faced portrayal as corrupt, whereas here the storyline remains fictional and therefore excessive protest lacks justification.

Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan examined the material available on record and concluded that the title neither misrepresents nor humiliates the Yadav community.

Furthermore Justice Nagarathna reiterated that the petitioner’s principal grievance relates only to the name and not to any actual depiction of caste.

Court Allows Future Legal Remedy

Counsel appearing for petitioner Avdhesh Yadav informed the bench that the film will release on February 27 and requested liberty to approach the court again if anything objectionable appears after viewing, however the judges responded that since the narrative remains imaginary such opposition does not seem appropriate at this stage.
