Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to the people of West Bengal before the Assembly elections. He described himself as “heartbroken” over the present condition of the state. Party workers have started distributing the message across regions before the high-stakes polls. Moreover, he greeted residents and said voters would decide the state’s destiny soon. He also shared his resolve to build a ‘Viksit’ West Bengal.
“Joy Maa Kali” and Promise of Change
Beginning with “Joy Maa Kali,” he stated that upcoming months would shape the future of younger generations. He said every youth, elder, and woman dreaming of Sonar Bangla feels deep pain. Their suffering, he added, deeply affects him. Therefore, he pledged to make the region developed and prosperous.
Additionally, he highlighted eleven years of NDA governance focused on welfare and growth. From farmers’ support to youth aspirations, and from women empowerment to inclusive outreach, he said positive outcomes now appear visible.
Accusations Against State Government
In the communication, he accused the Mamata Banerjee-led administration of extreme non-cooperation. He asserted that despite opposition, nearly five crore residents opened bank accounts through Jan-Dhan Yojana. Furthermore, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan enabled construction of 85 lakh toilets. He added that loans worth ₹2.82 lakh crore supported small traders and entrepreneurs. Under Atal Pension Yojana, 56 lakh senior citizens gained self-reliance. Through Ujjwala Yojana, over one crore households received LPG connections.
Moreover, he said 52 lakh farmers benefited from direct assistance via Kisan Samman Nidhi. He described farmers as struggling despite feeding the nation.
Call for Development and Cultural Revival
He contrasted current conditions with post-independence industrial leadership. He blamed six decades of misrule and appeasement politics for decline. He mentioned youth migration due to job scarcity and safety concerns among women. He said the Bengal envisioned by Swami Vivekananda and Rishi Aurobindo now faces violence and narrow politics.
Referring to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, he called the state his proud land now stained by illegal infiltration and crimes against women. He invoked Thakur Rabindranath Tagore’s Sonar Bangla and urged restoration of pride. He said the nation stands secure today but asked how long residents will tolerate hardship.
He promised to replicate improvements seen in other states. He cited Ayushman Bharat for health security, employment for youth, and protection for women. He pledged safety, cultural revival, citizenship for refugees under CAA, and freedom from infiltration. Finally, he urged people to rebuild West Bengal of brave ancestors’ dreams and achieve ‘Viksit West Bengal’ by 2026.
