India strongly criticised Pakistan at the 61st Session of the UN Human Rights Council. During the high-level segment, India’s representative Anupama Singh rejected Islamabad’s allegations regarding Jammu and Kashmir.
She accused Pakistan of spreading misinformation about development in the Union Territory. Moreover, she stated that Pakistan must be “hallucinating” or living in “La La land” if it questions visible progress. Consequently, India dismissed the remarks as baseless propaganda.

Chenab Rail Bridge Cited as Evidence
Singh referred to the Chenab Rail Bridge to underline infrastructure achievements. She highlighted that the bridge, inaugurated last year, stands as the world’s highest railway bridge. “If the Chenab Rail Bridge is fake, then Pakistan must be hallucinating,” she said firmly. Furthermore, she added that Pakistan’s incessant propaganda now reeks of envy. Therefore, India presented concrete development projects as proof of transformation in Jammu and Kashmir.
India also rejected allegations raised by Pakistan and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Singh stated that the OIC has allowed itself to function as an “echo chamber” for Islamabad. She categorically dismissed all accusations. Additionally, she asserted that repeated claims cannot overshadow ground realities. Thus, India conveyed a clear message that it will not accept misinformation at international forums.
India Reaffirms Stand on Jammu and Kashmir
Singh reiterated India’s established position on Jammu and Kashmir. She declared that the region was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. She emphasised that the accession in 1947 was completely legal and irrevocable. Moreover, she stated that the process complied with the Indian Independence Act and international law.
She added that the only outstanding dispute concerns territories under Pakistan’s illegal occupation. Consequently, she urged Islamabad to vacate areas under its control. India also drew attention to Jammu and Kashmir’s development budget. Singh stated that the region’s budget exceeds more than double the recent IMF bailout sought by Pakistan.
Through this comparison, she contrasted governance and development in Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan’s economic challenges. Furthermore, she implied that sustained investment reflects stability and administrative focus. Therefore, India framed economic strength as evidence of progress.
Democracy and Voter Participation
Responding to criticism regarding democratic processes, Singh firmly rejected Pakistan’s remarks. She said it is hard to accept lectures on democracy from a country where civilian governments rarely complete their terms.
She cited voter turnout in recent general and assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. According to her, strong participation demonstrates that residents have rejected terrorism and violence. Moreover, she argued that people continue advancing on the path of development.

Allegations of State-Sponsored Terrorism
Singh also accused Pakistan of attempting to destabilise the region through relentless state-sponsored terrorism. However, she maintained that Jammu and Kashmir continues progressing politically, economically and socially.
She stated that Pakistan would do well to focus on addressing its internal crisis. Additionally, she remarked that the world can see through what she described as Islamabad’s charade.
Continued Diplomatic Sparring
The exchange marks another episode of sharp diplomatic sparring between India and Pakistan at multilateral forums. Issues related to Jammu and Kashmir frequently trigger heated debates at platforms like the UNHRC.
Nevertheless, India reiterated its emphasis on development, democracy and sovereignty. Consequently, the intervention reflected New Delhi’s consistent stand on the region.
As tensions persist in international forums, India continues to highlight infrastructure growth and public participation. Therefore, the debate once again underscored the deep divisions between the two neighbours on Jammu and Kashmir.
